Mission

As we are busily finishing the work of the school year, and looking forward to the holidays, we are also looking ahead. Whilst our students enjoyed a long weekend last week the staff were in meetings, making plans for next year. As we did this there was an energy and a sense of expectancy for the new year and the opportunities it may offer.

It’s a bit like that in our Church year too. The feast of Christ the King on Sunday leads to the season of Advent and the beginning of the new liturgical year. Mass will be celebrated in the Chapel as it is most Sundays during school time. All families and friends are welcome to join us at 6pm this Sunday or the following week as we begin Advent, and direct our hearts and minds to the birth of Christ.

Meanwhile we wait here on earth and rely on the Holy Spirit working through people to do Christ’s work.  We are called to feed the hungry, clothe the naked and visit the imprisoned. In this year of Holy, we are encouraged to find God in the everyday. What better way than to see the face of Jesus in another person, regardless of their status. So at St Greg’s we collect gifts and groceries and we put together dignity packs for the young people of Reiby Juvenile Justice Centre.

Junior School is collecting for the St Vincent de Paul food hampers. Some of these will also be distributed to families in Claymore. Suggested items include

  • Kindergarten – confectionery items
  • Year 1 – pasta, rice, and pasta sauces
  • Year 2 – salad dressings, sauces, oils and meal bases
  • Year 3 – jams and spreads
  • Year 4 – long life milk, tea, coffee and hot chocolate
  • Year 5 – desserts, cake and cupcake mixes
  • Year 6 – toiletry items

Years 7 – 9 are collecting for the St Vincent de Paul toy drive. Each class has been given a target family and contributions may include appropriate gifts, or even Christmas decorations.

Some suggestions for Year 10 and Year 12 students include:

  • Toiletries
  • Magazines
  • Socks and Underwear
  • Sports bags (for the boys)
  • Large tote bags (for the girls)

May I take this opportunity to thank all our families for their support of these important initiatives and wish all of you all the joy that comes from gifts – the receiving and the giving.
