From the Deputy Principal/Head of Senior School

As we move into the final few weeks of the school year, I take this opportunity to inform parents of the message that we have been consistently reinforcing with the students. We have made it very clear that we expect the boys to work up until the last day and to finish the school year strongly. This includes attending school, applying themselves in class, completing all of the required work and ensuring that they continue to co-operate with their teachers and fellow students.

Sometimes, hopefully only in a small number of cases, students think that the high standards regarding behaviour, respect, co-operation and application to studies don’t continue to apply toward the end of the year. I can assure you that we will be insisting on the maintenance of these expectations and challenging any students who fail to fulfill their responsibilities. No student should act or behave in a manner that is contrary to the code of conduct for students, which is clearly set out in the student diary. We would expect that parents and carers would support the efforts of the College in maintaining this position in all aspects of College life and we would ask for support from home to reinforce these messages.

As always, we never want to lose sight of the overwhelming majority of boys who come to school each day and give their best. Whether this be in the classroom, on the sporting field, in co-curricular activities or through their positive and encouraging support of their fellow students.

Many boys set a high standard through their behaviour and co-operation with each other and the teachers, through the completion of schoolwork and by their genuine friendliness and positive demeanour.  Thank you and congratulations to all of the students who do make St Greg’s such a wonderful community.

During the recent pupil-free days, all members of the College teaching staff participated in two days of professional learning. The Senior School teachers worked in their KLA groups on embedding quality differentiated teaching practices into their teaching programs as well as developing some refined processes for data collection and analysis. These occasions provide a wonderful opportunity for the staff to enhance their knowledge and skills and we appreciate having these professional learning times.

Finally, on Friday 15 November, the College held the Year 7 2020 Orientation Day. It was great to see the large contingent of new students here as a whole group for the first time. Apart from completing some literacy and numeracy testing, the boys enjoyed some games and a tour of the College.

Thanks to all the staff for their preparation and participation in the day and a particular thank you to the many senior boys who made themselves available to support the new Year 7 students.

Best wishes,
