Library

It has been wonderful to have the students back onsite and see their enthusiasm for borrowing all the new books that we had ready for them. It is the most rewarding part of our job, hearing about what the students have enjoyed and having them rush to the Library to borrow the next book in a series or the latest book by their favourite authors.

Write a Book in a Day

We received some exciting news recently that one of our Year 9 entries for the Write a Book in a Day competition had been shortlisted in the finals and we are proud to announce that they won!

The book, How Not to Accept Your Dad’s Relationship, was written by the team 'Scribble Works'; Sophie Hollier, Kiara McGaw, Caitlyn Singleton, Emily Smith, Gabrielle Smyth and Ella Taylor. The book has a great plot, is very funny and is beautifully illustrated. Congratulations to the girls on this wonderful achievement!

Book Week

We were hoping to celebrate Book Week 2021 when we returned onsite but obviously have had some interruptions. However, we created displays and ran a couple of fun competitions to create a bit of fun in the Library.

We had 'Match the teacher to their favourite book', a Kahoot! for matching books to their ‘Old, New or Other World’ and 'Guess the number of pages' competition.

Book Week 2022 will be bigger and better than ever!

Audio Books

With the holidays approaching and the state opening up for travel, now would be a good time to have a look at the Library’s audio books which are ideal for long car trips.

Go to the Library libguide https://libguides.kilbreda.vic.edu.au/c.php?g=466853&p=6794611 for guidance on how to access these items or ask a librarian.  Below are a few of the new and popular audio books available now.

'First World'

Recently we were made aware that one of our parents, Lerna Gulluyan had published her first novel, ‘First World’. Written for a middle school audience, we purchased the e-book for review and have since purchased copies for our collection.

The book is based around free spirited Maddison Edmonds who is disillusioned and disconnected from her wasteful, modern world. A keen soccer player,  one day she trips into a wormhole, an inter-universal portal which whisks her away to an alternate universe. In the new world she not only learns more about herself, who she really is and what is of most importance to her, but that she is in fact on a mission, a mission to find a key that will save her world from the destructive path it is heading down. She must find this key and travel back in order to save it!

‘First World’ can currently be purchased at Beaumaris Books https://beaumaris-books.myshopify.com/

As this will be our last article in the newsletter this year, we wish everyone a beautiful, bountiful Christmas with lots of brilliant books under your Christmas trees.
