A few Saturdays ago, I returned home to find a beautiful package on the dining room table with a card addressed to me. It had been dropped off by “A very proud exit student of Kilbreda”, Mrs Nanette Perazzo (née Forsyth) who along with her brother Tom attended Kilbreda in her youth. Nanette’s daughter Liz finished in 1992 Liz’s daughter, Olivia Davies in Year 10 is currently a third generation Kilbredian.

In the card, Nan detailed the provenance of the package. “This tablecloth and serviettes was given by a Mrs Brennan who lived in Murrumbeena, to a very dear friend of mine who also lived in the same area.

Mrs  Brennan gave them to my friend Rose before she passed away quite some time ago. She told Rose at that time that they had been made by nuns at Kilbreda many years before and given to Mrs Brennan as a present.

Sadly my friend Rose passed away mid this year and shortly before she died gave the tablecloth and serviettes to me and said that I might like to give them back to Kilbreda.”

Sr Lia delighted in being given the task of opening the package, to reveal the most intricate embroidery and detailed needlework of the pieces, which, for their age, which we assume to be around 80 years, were in immaculate condition.

It is hoped the beautiful pieces will be displayed in a Heritage Room which is currently in the planning stages.
