PUBLIC SPEAKING

FOOTSCRAY CITY COLLEGE HAS THE BEST PUBLIC SPEAKER IN THE WEST

Mason Hose has won the annual WynSpeak Public Speaking Competition, after having gained second place for his performance in the Rotary Ainger-Peck Public Speaking competition.

Mason was also a finalist in the Rotary Rostrum Voice of Youth competition held on Sunday 23rd June at St Kevin's College, Moonga Road, Toorak and he and came third - a tremendous result!

Six Students participated in the Debaters Association of Victoria (DAV) Junior Public Speaking Competition at Maribyrnong College. Mali Hawke tied first place and goes on to the state finals next term. Two other Footscray students came .5 points from the top (and might  be chosen as wildcard entrants, fingers crossed!), so FCC did really well.

Hannah Hickey in year 8 has been selected and subsidised to go to a DAV winter training camp. This is usually reserved for students in years 10-12 and costs over $200. She has done exceptionally well in the debating competition this year.

Footscray City College has a strong debating and public speaking culture. We highly value student voice and presenting ideas and identity. The senior debate competition is ongoing, with one team undefeated since last year. The junior debate competition will be starting in Term 3 for those in year 7 and 8 who have not participated in debating before. Encourage students to sign up to the various competitions available!
