CHEF'S DINNER

This term has been a very busy one in the Food and Hospitality areas with our annual Chef's Dinner. The VET Hospitality classes worked with The Plough Hotel’s Head Chef, Scott Thomas and his team to plan and produce an Asian themed dinner on 30th of May. The dinner was a great success and our biggest yet with 113 guests. Diners sat in the Futures Center which was transformed with over 400 lanterns made by Food Studies classes and the EAL centre. The Front of House staff were made up of our students across all year levels who applied and were interviewed to be waiters for the evening under the Manager of The Plough Hotel. The senior Music students provided atmosphere with their musical talents during pre-drinks and canapes. The VET Horticulture classes grew a wide range of leafy greens and garnishes to be enjoyed in many of the dishes served. The Friends of Footscray ran the bar and handed out a series of grants across a range of subject areas. This event was a truly spectacular night showing off the skills of our students and building connections within our local community.

Below is a poem by a student who has shown dramatic improvement in food and hospitality since she started food studies in year 10.

Brigitta Clifford - Hospitality teacher

Chef’s Dinner Night Poem by Neha Oraniuk

When I first moved to Footscray I chose to do food tech as my elective

I had Brigitta as my teacher and with the recipes I was selective

Brigitta said add a poppy seed

And I thought m&m is what I need

Her passion of teaching clearly shows

The food she prepares it slowly flows

She works very hard indeed

Giving to her students whatever they need

I look up to Brigitta and hope to do my best

And now I follow recipes who would have guessed!

This annual event at Footscray City College oh my

It’s hard to believe how fast Chef’s Dinner went by

We all worked so hard towards Chef’s Dinner Night

Leading up to the day we were filled with delight

We had great help from Scott Thomas and the Plough Hotel team

And as a class we discussed an Asian food theme

Wait staff from year 8 at Caroline Chisholm and Footscray City College

Came to gain experience with a little bit of knowledge

The VET Hort class grew veggies for dinner

Mum and dad said the Tom Yum was a winner

A professional evening there’s no doubt about that

Bring out the wine and the parents did chat!

Everyone left with a big smile and feeling content

It was such a stunning and rejoiceful event
