Careers and Senior Pathways

Dear Killester Community,

Term 1 2022 has come and gone extremely quickly. There is much action happening in the Careers and Pathways space over the school holidays. Many Tertiary Institutions will be running open days and events and I encourage all students to attend relevant events they are interested in. The majority of these events are in person which will enrich student knowledge about the various pathways available to them post school. I wish everyone a safe and restful Easter and look forward to an equally busy Term 2.

Year 10 'Dare to Dream' week

During Week 7 of this Term, the Year 10 cohort participated in the 'Dare to Dream' week which was a combination of Career and Pathways activities and Personal Development. All girls participated in a number of enriching activities designed to sculpt their future pathway including seminars from Fashionista Sistas, Hope Action Theory from South Eastern Local Learning and Employment Network and Tyson Day from 'Arrive and Thrive' who spoke of the importance of networking in a blended form; online with platforms and in person. Students gained real life skills by partaking in a 'Mock Interview Challenge' workshop where appropriate attire was worn by students and interview skills were learnt and practiced. All Year 10 students also focused on Safe@Work in preparation for their upcoming Work Experience week scheduled for Term 3 and completed OHS mandatory modules. Each student took the time to complete their Morrsiby profile which measures students strengths pertaining to verbal, numerical and abstract competencies and provides suggestions for future subjects, pathways and careers.

Finally, in our jam-packed Careers component of the week, we were blessed to have many Killester Alumni who generously gave up their time to share their Pathway since graduating from Killester College. We had a vast array of different Careers represented and all students were especially interested to hear the journeys each guest showcased. Thank you to all of the Alumni who were in attendance for the 'Pathways in Focus' event. We truly value your time and hope you visit Killester College again in the future.

In summation, I would like to sincerely thank the Year 10 Homeroom Staff for their vested support across the week and I personally thank each and every presenter who assisted to make the week an enriching experience.
