Life Drawing Series - VCE Artists

Year 11 and 12 Art students have just completed four weeks of life drawing classes after school.  This week's poses were dynamic and students chose a wide variety of different materials to use.  It was great to see the students' confidence in drawing improve over this period.  Work is exhibited in the VCE hallway for you to view.

Thank you students for taking the time to continue to build your skills in observational drawing whilst exploring a range of different materials. Congratulations to all.

Bark Ladies, National Gallery of Victoria Incursion - Year 9 Visual Art

In Year 9 Visual Art students have attended an incursion with the National Gallery of Victoria to learn about the female Indigenous Aboriginal artists that exhibited in the current "Bark Ladies" exhibition.  The amazing women that produced these works blended both innovative, contemporary and traditional artworks on a bark canvas.  This was an inspiring and valuable experience for the students to connect with the wider art community and learn more about indigenous art, symbols, stories and culture. I am very proud of the students who immersed themselves in this incursion and asked so many questions relating to culture, tradition and process.  Well done students.

Please enjoy these photos of the indigenous inspired vessels and cylinders (works in process). Students have been working on these in term one and we are excited to complete these by firing, glazing and oxiding.  Congratulations students on your amazing constructions and designs.

"I found the Bark Ladies incursion was very fascinating. The artworks that were shown all had different meanings to them and most had a very sacred meaning behind them representing who they are and their ancestors and where they came from."  Lovia

"It was a unique experience that educated young individuals on the impact of aboriginal art." Ariel S

"I found the incursion really interesting. I loved how Indignous Aboriginal women were allowed to start painting in the 1970's  and made the painting more flowy and colorful. I really like the artwork from Eunice Djerrkju Yunupinju and how she used her personal experience and made it into a painting." Rithika J

Visual Communication Design

Unit 1, Outcome 1: Drawing as a Means of Communication

As part of Unit 1, Outcome 1, the talented Year 11 VCD students used observational drawing as a means to communicate ideas and concepts to an audience. They developed their understanding of the aesthetics, appearance and function of objects and structures and investigated ways of representing form and surface textures by applying different materials and media to render observational drawings. The students are working on their Final Presentation for this outcome now. You will see them next Term, they look fabulous.
