VCAL

Vietnam Veteran

On the 25th of March, the VCAL students were visited by Vietnam Veteran Brendan Kincade. He explained to them about the Vietnam War, leadership and the importance of ANZAC Day.

Their reflections included:

"This experience was great. I was able to try on the uniform and accessories which were really heavy and it would have been hard to carry all that equipment in the hot weather. It gave me a small experience of what it would have been like for him." Florence (Year 11)

"Brendan was really positive, happy and chilled despite everything that had happened in the past. He made an educational lesson so much fun." Eden (Year 11)

"I got to dress up with the equipment used in the Vietnam War. I was able to better understand the challenges he faced. it was a unique and memorable experience that I would recommend for other students." Vi (Year 12)

RYDA Program

On the 29th of March, the VCAL students were able to participate in the RYDA program, or the Road Safety Education - Driver Awareness Program. It is a community based, road safety initiative, which provides practical information and tries to make young drivers and passengers more aware in order to make the roads safer.

This was the feedback the students provided:

"A good experience for all students to learn about road safety and there were many different experiences that helped us to learn more about staying safe on the road. There was a guest speaker who had experienced road trauma due to driving whilst tired. She was very brave to share her story with us and made us realise how lucky we are." Madison (Year 11)

" I learned more about road safety, the dangers and how speed can impact your breaking and reaction time. The experiences made me want to be more cautious on the roads. I was really sad and touched hearing about the experiences of the road accident survivor." Victoria and Bianca P (Year 12)
