Girton Basketball Club

Summer Season  2021/2022

After a couple of interrupted seasons of Basketball, it was great to have a complete season. We had twenty-five teams compete in the competition, with lots of enthusiasm and excitement to be back on the court. Seventeen teams competed in the finals, with seven teams progressing to their respective Grand Final. 

Our Division One Girl's Crystals had a great season. They were undefeated and victorious in the Grand Final by 20 points. The Division Three Grand Final was an all Girton game between Silver and Benchwarmers. Due to camps week, Silver was unable to play on the scheduled date, so the game was played at lunchtime in the Gym a week earlier. It was a very close game, with Silver winning by 5 points in the last minutes of the game. Maya Dignan (10 Riley) was awarded the MVP.

The U18 Division One Boys Team, Aces, progressed to the Grand Final for the first time. Coming up against a team they haven't beaten all season would be tough. They lost the game by 21 points. 

U16 Boys' Team, Girton Magic, have had mixed results throughout the season but have shown their true form in the finals. They will play their Grand Final tonight. Good luck, boys. 

U16 Division One Girls' Team, Girton Gold, came up against their arch-rivals in the competition Generals Jets. They haven't beaten them all season, so they hoped the result would go their way. Unfortunately, they went down by 14 points. 

The most disappointing result of the season is the Girton Emeralds, who, due to Year 7 camp and being unable to reschedule, had to forfeit their final game. They ended the season in 2nd position, so they should be very proud of the season they have had.

The Basketball Club would like to thank all players for their commitment and sportsmanship. Thank you to all the parents, guardians and carers for your support. Thank you to Bendigo Braves Coaches, Mark Alabakov and Luke Rosendale, for your expertise at training.

We look forward to continued success in the Winter Season.
