From the Head

Term One and Camps Week draws to a close this week and we celebrate a full term of learning without a lockdown.  That said, our term has not been without its COVID challenges as we have all negotiated the unpredictable world of living with the virus.

Nonetheless, having been able to enjoy my first Senior Formal with students earlier this term, and also the Twilight Movie Evening last Friday with families in the Junior School, I know we have all welcomed the sense of normality returning to our beloved school calendar of events.

Happily, we are also busily preparing for a return to our Foundation Day celebrations on Friday the 13th May, 2022, to be held in the Sacred Heart Cathedral.  More information will be provided early in Term 2.

At the time of writing, many students will be bussing their way back to Bendigo, in masks of course.  The autumn holidays bring a welcome return to the annual Bendigo Easter Fair where a good number of our students will again volunteer.  At the end of the holidays, along with student leaders, I will represent Girton at the ANZAC Day service.  The next two weeks will give us all a chance to rest and return re-energised for Term Two.

Our ‘Getting to Know You’ feature this week introduces our new Head of Senior School, Ms Dawn Davis, who will commence at the beginning of next term.  Akin to the role of Head of Junior School, our new Head of Senior School will play an active and important role in the day-to-day management of the Senior School.  Ms Davis brings a wealth of experience in the leadership of teaching and learning, as well as in supporting students across the senior years.  I am delighted to welcome Ms Davis to Girton Grammar School.  Her exceptional educational abilities are certain to be an asset to us all.
