Celebrating Achievement
Cairns' Joel Mundie (Year 9) has picked up two gold medals at the Australian National Championships on the Gold Coast.
The rising star now turning his attention to Tokyo, with Paralympic trials just eight weeks away. What a champion!
Well done, Joel. We’re proud of your dedication and commitment.
Nicholas Adriaans (Year 11) has worked his way up over the years, be awarded the highest Scout’s Award; the Australian Scout Medallion. He was amazing to watch the whole group work together getting ready for their upcoming three day camp. The kids do all their own cooking, hygiene, tents.... the lot! Scouts is a wonderful way for kids to learn skills, make friends, learn teamwork & leadership. Congratulations Nick!
Congratulations to Nicholas Galvin in Year 9 who competed in the Townsville Powerlifting Competition over the holidays and won his U18 weight class. Nicholas has been training consistently for many months now and we are very proud of him. He is now training to compete at Nationals in Melbourne in August.
Another congratulations to Mr Antonellis who also competed in the same competition and won his weight class as well!
Congratulations to Tyreze Samuel and Orlando Geary (Year 8), who played in the North Queensland Junior Basketball Competition (NQJBC) for U14's Boys, State Representative Championships Tournament in Townsville last weekend. Orlando played in the U14's Cairns Marlins Div.1 team & Tyreze for the U14's Cairns Stingers Div. 2 team. Both teams played four games each for four wins each! Congratulations boys and well done representing the Far North's Junior Basketball!
Congratulations to Alana Mehes (Year 9), who won Gold for Underwater Hockey!
Alana recently attended the National Underwater Hockey championships in Hobart playing for the Qld U15A team and U19B team. Some days she played six games back to back requiring great stamina and skill of holding their breath while swimming fast under water.
The Qld U15A team was undefeated and won the final against Vic 17-nil, bringing home a Gold Medal!

This young lady, proudly represented the youth of Cairns by raising the flag during the Dawn Ceremony and she also led her own flight as a Commander. She set an amazing example off leadership in the pouring rain and cold. Alana was at both The Dawn Service and the Parade, where she did an exemplary job. Alana as well as well as fellow St Mary’s Students who are also cadets, did your school proud on ANZAC day, representing retired and current servicemen and women.
Alana is also featured on the COVER PHOTO of the FB page “Cairns Cenotaph & Memorial Site”.

I am sure Alana’s family would be able to provide you with more photos but I just wanted to bring this to your attention as I felt this young lady was outstanding.
