ONE DAY SCHOOLS CUP VOLLEYBALL

On Wednesday 10, Thursday 11 and Friday 12 May, McKinnon had 14 teams compete in the One Day Schools Cup tournament in the Year 9, Year 7 and Year 8 Divisions.

It was a wonderful competitive experience for most of our teams who regularly compete in the State League competitions on Saturdays and train twice per week. It was a delightful experience for our Years 8 & 9 development squad to use all the skills they have been working on all year to compete in matches for the first time.

Our enthusiastic Year 7s had a great time and also learned a lot about the game itself: competing, playing different positions and having to score and referee other teams.

We are very proud of all our athletes and a big congratulations goes out to our medalists:

  • Year 9 Girls Div 1 Blue - Bronze
  • Year 7 Boys Div 1 - Silver
  • Year 8 Boys Div 1 Blue - Gold
  • Year 8 Girls Div 1- Bronze and
  • Year 8 Boys Div 2 - Silver.

A massive thank-you to the wonderful coaches who supported the teams over the three days - Ellie Adler, Ray Braniska, Liam Adlington, John van Noorden, Luca Fraser, Alma Segev, James Kay, Molly Forehan, Stephanie Baker, Tayla and Zoe Fischer.

INTERSCHOOL SENIOR GIRLS VOLLEYBALL – SMR FINALS

On Monday 15 May, McKinnon Senior Volleyball Girls attended the Southern Metro Region Finals. We received the pennant after beating Dromana, Cranbourne and McClelland secondary schools in our pool, each in two sets. The last crossover game was the most exciting game and McKinnon had to dig deep to stay focussed and play their best against MacRobertson Girls.

Each girl played exceptionally well and it was evident that our team was very determined to win all matches, with a smile and great sportsmanship all day. The next State competition is coming up on Friday 19 May - McKinnon Volley Girls are ready to dominate!

INTERMEDIATE BOYS VOLLEYBALL

On Monday 1 May, the McKinnon Intermediate Boys made the Southern Metropolitan Region Volleyball Finals. The McKinnon boys played a brilliant game against Mt Eliza and were looking very strong. Unfortunately, a narrow loss to Carrum Downs, who were looking surprisingly competitive, made it to the next round. With some loss in confidence, the McKinnon boys couldn't beat Hampton Park either. Great effort to get this far!

YEAR 7 BOYS VOLLEYBALL

The Year 7 Boys Volleyball Team took on 7 other Schools for a place in the State Finals.

There were some tight battles throughout the day, but the skill and execution of the team took hold, and they finished first in their pool.

Playing in the final for the day they made easy work of the opposition winning 2-0 to make it to the State Finals in November.

Congratulations to the team on an excellent result.
