CAPTAIN'S CORNER

SENIOR CAPTAIN

Term 2 has kicked off with a bang as we had our annual Cross Country Carnival that took place on Friday 5 May. The 90s theme that our House Captains chose was an excellent chance for everyone to show off their different outfits and interpretations of the 90s. Congratulations to everyone who participated in the event and who was also named to represent the school in the next round for the Kingston Division Cross Country. We wish you all the best of luck and represent our school with pride.

Also a huge thank you to Mr Bridges, Mr Hudd and the other staff for making this day happen, as well as the Interact Club who helped out selling drinks and making a donation of $386 to charity.

I encourage everyone to keep an eye out on Compass for any events that are coming up and to get involved in those events as much as they can to make our school culture stronger and make new mates along the way.

The school tours have been a great success so far this term, with our Year 10 Peer Support and Form Captains each taking lead in showing our future students and parents around the school. This is a great opportunity and experience for our Year 10s as they are forced out of their comfort zone and learn to speak to new people which is a great life skill to have for any situation they come across in the future.

I finish off by writing to my fellow Year 12s by assuring everyone to keep being positive and happy. It was quite a rough last term for all of us individually, but I know that together we can all push through. We are almost there!

JUNIOR CAPTAIN

So far it has been a great few weeks to kick off term 2. The whole school recently participated in the school Cross Country event. It took place on Friday 5 May during periods 3 & 4. Students from the Main Campus took on a course which runs through McKinnon Reserve and the surrounding streets whereas the students from the East Campus took a run through Virginia Reserve and down towards Marlborough Street Reserve and down South Drive. Students who placed top 10 in their age groups will be continuing through to represent our school in the Kingston Division Cross Country event and we wish them the best of luck.

Recently, in the past few days the Principals at the East Campus have been kind enough to show the Golden State Warriors vs the Los Angeles Lakers games during lunch time with the LA Lakers leading the Series 3-1 as they play game 5 of the series on Thursday 11 May. So, if you are at the East Campus and interested, come down to level one in the area next to 1.7 and cheer on your favourite team.

I hope to bring some new ideas to help the community and better McKinnon as a school and I am looking forward to working a lot more with the McKinnon leadership team this year.
