YEAR 11 CENTRAL AUSTRALIA

STUDENT REFLECTIONS

Central was an experience we definitely won’t be forgetting anytime soon! The many bus rides were full of card games (that may have gotten a bit too competitive), knitting, karaoke and trivia. Central wouldn’t be the same without the dance offs, bus against bus competitions and unexpected twists along the way, such as our incredible stop to watch the Royal Flying Doctor’s Service land a plane on the road just 100m in front of us.

A highlight for many of us on the trip was our visit to Lilla, an Indigenous community in the Northern Territory. We participated in a welcome to country smoking ceremony, ate kangaroo tail and heard about their culture and beliefs as we walked through the breathtaking landscape. From the Cathedral Ranges to Uluru, every location we visited blessed us with magnificent views and provided us with a new perspective on our beautiful and vast country.

The whole experience was filled to the brim with laughter and smiles all around. As our classmates became our family for two weeks, memories and bonds were created that are sure to stick with us for a lifetime.

Central was made very memorable and enjoyable not only by the people who were in it but also by the hired staff and teachers who came on the trip. The destinations would have always been fun, but there was no guarantee that the bus rides (where we spent most of our time) would have been as enjoyable as they were without the cast of charming characters that we had there with us.

Mr Howe and his “facts” about the local area, Ian (the bus driver) and his actual facts about the local area, and the remaining teachers who infrequently managed to steal the microphone off of Mr Howe, all contributed to making the long bus rides more entertaining. Camping under the beautiful stars with all your friends was an amazing experience and I would recommend that everyone signs up for it when they have the opportunity!

Central was an absolutely enriching experience. Travelling around South Australia and the Northern Territory, seeing such scenic sights, forming everlasting friendships and making precious memories was a surreal experience.

Central was an incredible journey, full of breathtaking experiences that will stay with us forever. Travelling around South Australia and the Northern Territory exposed us to some of the most incredible and scenic sights that Australia has to offer. From the rugged beauty of the Outback to the majestic flat plains, we were able to see a diverse range of landscapes that are unique to this part of the world.

But Central was not just about the sights we saw. It was also about the people we met and the friendships we formed. Travelling with others was a great way to bond, and it's likely that we made some lifelong friends on this trip. The memories we made together will be cherished forever, and the experiences we shared will have created a strong bond between us all.

Throughout our travels, we learned a lot about the culture and history of the places we visited, and this would have enriched our understanding of Australia and its people. We met the local community who shared their stories and traditions with us, we also explored a cultural centre which helped us understand the history and culture of the region.

Overall, Central was a truly enriching experience in every sense of the word. From the stunning scenery to the lasting friendships and the cultural insights, we undoubtedly had a transformative journey that will stay with us for a lifetime.
