STATE SWIMMING AND DIVING REPORT

Victoria’s elite swimmers and divers assembled at MSAC recently to compete in the state championships. McKinnon was represented by Zach Gordon (Year 11) and Daniel Sidur (Year 10) in their individual events, and we had two relay teams.

All of our swimmers did extremely well with Zach Gordon going very close to a medal in the 50m butterfly coming in 4th.

The highlight of the day was our Year 7 Freestyle Relay team consisting of Tiger Song, Jihan Lee, Jonathan Chronopoulos and Will Sam who won a bronze medal for 3rd in the state.

At the diving event, Tali Liner (Year 12) and Harper Slattery (Year 8) qualified for the event.

INTERMEDIATE GIRLS TENNIS

On Monday 1 May, the Intermediate Girls Tennis Team travelled to Pakenham Regional Tennis Centre to compete in the SMR Finals.

The team played exceptionally well in their round robin matches, only dropping one set. The team were undefeated, winning their pool to move into the finals!

They tried their hardest and approached each point with great effort and a smile, but they unfortunately lost in the final. Runners Up overall was a great result and the team should be very proud of themselves, well done!

The team consisted of Bella Kaminsky (Year 10), Angelina Kaminsky (Year 9), Khushi Kukadiya (Year 9), Jordi Yahalom (Year 9) & Angelina Avdyugin (Year 9).

BEEP TEST CHALLENGE

Last week on Thursday 11 May the best beep test runners from Years 8 and 9 participated in the annual semester beep test challenge.

Stakes were high and the students were ready. Everyone started strong, with equal efforts from both year levels. As the test headed into Level 10 we had a few runners left with our eventual winners being Mia Lacey from Year 8 and Blayk O'Brien from Year 9.

Thanks to all involved! See you in Semester 2.

SENIOR LAWN BOWLS

On Tuesday 9 May, as Kingston Division and Southern Metropolitan Champions, we travelled across the city to play at Sunbury bowls club in the School Sport Victoria State Bowls competition. We were playing the best of the best! We had great success in the qualifying rounds with two wins beating Rutherglen (5-3) and Camperdown (7-5). We then progressed to the Semifinals but lost to Kyabram who regularly play for their local club. We were absolutely thrilled to finish 4th in the State!  We really enjoyed the opportunity playing against these great teams and had a memorable day.  We were so happy it was undercover!

JUNIOR LAWN BOWLS

On Tuesday 9 May, the McKinnon Junior Bowls team were given an invitation into the State Lawn Bowls. We ventured across the city to Sunbury to compete in the SSV State Lawn Bowls competition that was moved to indoor bowls (carpet). We fought really hard against St Augustines, Kyabram, Vermont and Maribyrnong College and played spectacularly but we missed out on the semifinal. This was an amazing effort as most of the teams at the finals play lawn bowls outside of school.

Most of the schools at the State level are from the country, regional areas so we were fortunate we only had to travel an hour.  We are looking forward to hopefully coming back here next year.

Thank you to Mrs Hooper for organizing, supporting and driving us. It was a great journey!
