MAN CAVE:

We are a preventative mental health and emotional intelligence charity that empowers boys to become great men.

We exist because suicide is the leading cause of death for men aged 15-44. It’s not car crashes, drug overdoses or coward punches. The biggest killer of young men is themselves. Not only that, more than one woman dies every week at the hands of a man, and most of the time this is a man they’re close with, someone they trust.

After working with over 20,000 boys across the country, we fundamentally believe that these statistics are preventable through early intervention programs that focus on boys strengths, rather than their deficits.

Using evidence-based workshops and expert facilitation, our programs provide boys with the critical emotional and social skills they need to lead flourishing lives for themselves, their relationships and their communities.

Our vision is to create a world in which every young man has healthy relationships, reaches his full potential and contributes to his community.

EMBRACE:

Organised by the Les Twentyman Foundation, Embrace is a mental health wellbeing program for young girls. The program helps them to be in touch with themselves, be confident to express their emotional self and increase their self awareness of their feelings and to express these in a positive, healthy way. The Embrace program also gives young girls the understanding of the importance of self-care and positive communications and relationships.

Counselling and Youth Work Support

Kingston Youth Services is offering Counselling and Youth Work Support at Platform 81 for any young people aged 12-25, who live, work or study in the City of Kingston. There is no need for a mental health care plan and sessions are free. Referral Options:

We also offer supported referrals and our youth work team can help link you with another service in the area that may specialise in your needs.

UPCOMING PARENT INFORMATION NIGHT with DR MICHAEL CARR-GREGG

Surviving and Thriving Year 12 is a free online information session for parents of Year 12 students on Tuesday 8 March from 6.00pm to 7.30pm.

This session will focus on practical advice and useful insights on how survive Year 12 particularly with the changes and impacts the last couple of years have presented, as well as;

How to reduce stress and increase productivity
Study techniques
How to manage sleep, social media, improve memory and avoid distractions

This session will have an Auslan interpreter.

ASPENDALE YOUTH COVE (AYC)

The AYC space will be reopening every week of school term on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and we want to hear from you what you want us to run!

UNIVERSAL

There's an opportunity to join the Universal team! Universal is a vibrant and exciting free quarterly youth magazine designed to provide an authentic representation of youth culture. The Committee is a group of creative, talented young people who meet monthly to write, edit and design each page of every edition. The magazine is distributed throughout Kingston and provides a great opportunity for creatives to strengthen and showcase their talents and skills. They are looking for more members, aged 12-25 with a connection to Kingston. This is an invaluable opportunity for young people wanting to strengthen or develop their skills within the creative industry. QUEER IN KINGSTON (QIK)

QIK is a free, confidential, weekly social support group for young people aged 12-17 years who have a connection to the City of Kingston (live, work, study) who may identify as same sex attracted, gender diverse or questioning their sexuality and gender.

The group always welcomes new members to join in their weekly sessions as well as a range of activities held throughout the year.

Our FReeZA Committee have been busy planning an amazing line up of events for young people across the City of Kingston.

Upcoming Events:

St Kilda Festival - Sunday 13 February 2022 at Catani Gardens, St Kilda
Come along and support local youth band Waliens on The PUSH stage from 4.30pm
Skate of Mind Event - Sunday 27 February 2022 at Bicentennial (Chelsea Skate and Youth) Park, Chelsea from 10am to 4pm
A BIG event to kick off the year in style. The day will host a skate and BMX competition, 3:3 basketball competition, live music from local young people, food trucks and prizes!

YOUTH ADVISORY COMMITTEE (YAC)

Join our Youth Advisory Committees and help shape the future directions of Council for Kingston’s young people.

The YAC has been established to provide advice to the City of Kingston in relation to broad-based youth related issues within the community and is an important forum for identifying municipal-wide issues and opportunities and advising Council about effective policy and service provision for young people within the City of Kingston.

The YAC provides opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills and be part of the decision making process. Further, the committee will provide the opportunities for young people to gain experience and knowledge of local government and the youth services system available to young people in the local and surrounding suburbs.

To join the crew, you must be 12-25 years with a connection to the City of Kingston (live, work, study).
