Brrrr, it’s chilly outside 😊

We started today with bacon and egg muffins for breakfast to warm us up before cracking into our work. We were fortunate enough to have Kim Baker from the HOL team join us for the day to see how our program is running and give some feedback/suggestions on how we can improve what we are doing.

Fortunately, our students turned up in warm clothes, ready for the chilly conditions. Unfortunately, we had a couple of absences and Indi was not a full capacity after injuring her ankle earlier in the week. Despite all this, our team was keen to get working to warm up and to try to get some projects completed.

Cy and Oscar worked on the pallet fence and were able to install the remaining four pallets to complete the project. They made quick progress and are really starting to develop some independence and great problem solving skills. They worked quite independently throughout the morning, only seeking assistance when they had exhausted their own ideas and efforts.

Aileer and Indi started preparing to build a small retaining wall to allow us to level our garden area a little. Unfortunately, Indi’s injury was causing her too much pain, so she ended up sitting inside preparing a planting schedule that outlines which vegetables we can grow in which seasons. Aileer persisted with the retaining wall and, once Cy and Oscar had finished their fence, everyone chipped in to get it finished before pack-up time.

MVP for the day went to Oscar, who best addressed his focus plan for the day, which was to work as an effective team member and ask questions if he was unsure of anything.

Next week we hope to start another fencing project to give us an enclosed area. We’ll also be levelling out our garden area and getting our planter boxes ready for planting.

All in all, it was a super-productive day and the cold didn’t really cause any issues.
