Year 7 Coleman Camp
Stepping out of one’s comfort zone is hard to achieve, but the Year Sevens of Coleman at UHS rose to the challenge during the recent camp at Gundiwindi Lodge on Wednesday 15th March 2023. As a participant myself, I can say that we made new friends and participated in various activities, which were physical and mental.
After arriving on Wednesday, we quickly settled into our cabins before starting our activities arranged in to five groups. Over the next three days, we did six challenges- including Archery, Trampolining, Team building exercises, the Giant Swing, the Flying Fox. Due to the scorching weather, ’The Survival Hut Building’ was chosen instead of the ‘Damper Cooking’ activity. Our evenings were filled with fun activities like bush dancing and group walks.
As the Coleman camp ended, we competed in the ‘World’s Best Camp Quiz’ and formed teams to answer questions on Australia and multiple other topics. On the last day, we visited Healesville Sanctuary and came across different species of animals and reptiles, watched a theatrical bird show and purchased souvenirs from the gift shop.
Coleman group students have shared their experience during the camp. According to Tong Guan, “The camp to Gundiwindi was a great experience for me. I got to meet so many new and fun people and extend my connections with others.” On the other hand, Charlotte Tran says her favourite aspect of camp was the big tree as she found it to be peaceful. For Kadence, “Camp was fun because I got to spend time with my friends and the activities were cool. And the tree culture was cool.” Lastly, camp taught me the power of teamwork and having great memories that will last a lifetime.
Overall, the Gundiwindi camping was an incredible experience, filled with laughter, learning and new friendships. We are extremely grateful to the camp leaders and teachers for their tireless efforts in making this camp a great success and giving us an opportunity to step outside of our comfort zone and embrace new challenges.
