Stem Cell Excursion At GTAC
On Friday, 10 March, 12 students in Years 10 and 11, who were selected based on the quality of their applications, visited GTAC to participate in a program entitled ‘Getting to the heart of it: using stem cells to understand heart health and disease’. The program was run in collaboration with the Novo Nordisk Foundation Centre for Stem Cell Medicine, which is located at the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute (MCRI).
The event started in the GTAC Theatre, where the MCRI researchers introduced stem cells to the students. Following a discussion session, the students moved to the STEM Discovery Lab, in which they completed five laboratory activities under the guidance of experts in different fields related to stem cells and heart diseases.
