Chess in the Medieval Age
Learning through play is alive and well at UHS! The Year 8 students have had the opportunity to play chess in their Humanities classes. We learned the origins of the game, how each piece reflects an aspect of the Medieval world and why some pieces were changed as the game became more common in Medieval Europe.
Students helped teach each other the rules and movements if they were unfamiliar with the game and then competed in quick games, earning points by capturing important pieces.
