Exploring the Wurundjeri Seasons at Royal Park Nature Playground

This term many of our year 7 classes have ventured to Royal Park Nature Playground as part of their studies of the Wurundjeri seasons. Although most of our students have been to this playground many times, almost all of them had never realised that the park was developed to specifically reflect the 7 Wurundjeri seasons.

Students had an opportunity to play on the grounds and take photos of the equipment, making links between the equipment provided and the Wurundjeri seasons. As an example, how might a circular stone structure link to the Waring (Wombat) season? Or, how does a winding path link to Poorneet (Tadpole) season? This gave students the chance to use one of our key skills – applying their knowledge to new contexts to show their everyday world in a new and interesting way.
