Northcote Students attend the BrainSTEM Kickstarter Day for the 9th Innovation Challenge

On Thursday the 15th we were lucky enough to be invited to the 9th BrainSTEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) Innovation Challenge held at Swinburne University. BrainSTEM is an organisation that aims to educate high school students about STEM pathways and careers via mentor-mentee programs. Along with four other schools, we participated in a kick-starter day in which we learnt about the program and what we will be doing over the next 12 weeks.

To start our STEM journey, we met with our mentor, Gabriela, a molecular biologist and discussed the project she was working on. We discussed shark antibodies and their applications to modern medicine, as well as other things relating to the research we would be conducting at La Trobe University’s school of molecular science.
