Auslan News

We have been very busy in the Auslan Classroom over the past 2 weeks! Students have been…

* continuing to practise finger signing the alphabet from A-Z in Grades 1-6!

* practising the signs for the following COLOURS in Auslan:

red, yellow, pink, green, purple, orange, blue, white, black, grey, brown, gold and silver

See if your child/ren are able to teach you to sign the song:

“I can SIGN/SING a RAINBOW!

(Even the Grade 5-6s have done a superb job learning to sign this song, so that they can help their younger Buddies in Grades P-2 practise it, or teach a younger sibling, cousin or friend outside of school!!)

* learning some new signs for some common FRUITS, including: apple, pineapple, tomato, apricot, lemon, orange, mango, watermelon, banana, grapes, avocado, coconut, pear, cherries, strawberries, peach, plum, and FRUIT SALAD!!

This is a new topic this week so most classes are just beginning to learn the Auslan fruit signs.

The Grade 1-4 classes are having fun using the Auslan signs in a FRUIT SALAD boardgame!

The Grade 5-6s are putting their favourite fruits into Jamie Oliver’s Ultimate Fruit Salad Recipe and they will sign their ingredient list to their classmates next week!

Maybe encourage the Grade 5-6s to practise signing their favourite fruits in their Ultimate Fruit Salad Recipe for their upcoming Auslan class!

We will continue the topic of FRUIT next week.

Lunchtime Newcombe Tournament

This term, students from Grades 4 to 6 will have the opportunity to participate in a lunchtime Newcombe Tournament. Newcombe is a modified version of volleyball where players get to catch the ball rather that volley it. This tournament will be in the form of a Round Robin competition, with games being played every Monday and Wednesday lunchtime. Students who have nominated to play will be placed into a team and a draw will be created. Players do not need to be available every Monday and Wednesday – only when their team is playing.
