SYDSA Cross Country Carnival

On Monday 8 May we took our Junior School Cross Country team to compete at the SYDSA Cross Country carnival at Fawkner Park. Although we didn’t have the team success that we have had in previous years, we did have some outstanding individual performances. Sarah W finished 5th overall in the 9/10 year old race and will now progress through to the Beachside Division carnival on Tuesday 30 May.

We also had Olivia B and Roma P finish 9th and 10th in the 12  year old event, both falling just short of qualifying for the division carnival. Well done to our Junior School Cross Country team on their efforts over the last two weeks of training and competing.

Junior School House Athletics

In what was a very big week for some of our Junior School students, we also had our Junior School House Athletics carnival on Wednesday 10 May at Duncan Mackinnon Athletics Track. Much like last year we were unlucky with the weather, but as always, this was not enough to dampen the spirits and positive attitudes of our amazing Junior School students.

With 9 individual events on offer, the students had an opportunity to try a range of events on the day. At the conclusion of the event, we awarded our age group winners and overall house winner. Congratulations to the following students for winning their respective age group awards, Anna D (9 Y/O), Oriana K-K (10 Y/O), Lily D (11 Y/O) and Olivia B (12 Y/O). Our overall house winner was awarded to Blundell. Well done to everyone that participated on the day and HUGE thank you to all the staff and student helpers that assisted, to allow the event to run so smoothly.

GSV Preliminary Cross Country Carnival

The Cross Country team will continue to train each Tuesday and Friday morning until the end of week 5. We wish our Cross Country team luck at the upcoming Preliminary carnival on Tuesday 16 May at Yarra Bend Park. I look forward to sharing our results in the next newsletter.

Junior School Sport

SYDSA Cross Country

After six weeks of training two mornings per week we had the opportunity to race against the 7 other GSV schools in our Preliminary Cross Country Carnival on Tuesday 16 May.

After a morning of rain and 8 other schools running the course before us, it certainly was true Cross Country conditions. We faced some very tough competition and at the conclusion of the event we finished 8th overall.

We did have some individual success with Sienna S finishing 19th in the Intermediate race, Abi S finishing 33rd in the Seniors and Amaya P finishing 44th in the Junior race.

We look forward to competing again, while hopefully welcoming back some more of our squad members for the upcoming Championship Carnival on Friday 26 May at Cruden Farm. Well done to all the students that competed, I have no doubt we will be better for the run.
