Junior students' basketball trials
On Wednesday 17th of August the Senior Girls Netball Team competed in the Victorian Schools Netball Championships, at the State Hockey and Netball Centre. The girls were up against some tough competition on the day including schools such as Strathcona Girls College and Geelong Grammar, who might we add was coached by a Vixen!! The girls didn't let that get to them though! They were still excited about their Regionals win and the prospect of heading to the State Championship and determined that the day would be about team bonding and giving everyone a fair go. They won their first game quite convincingly and came off the court really impressed about how well they were able to keep to the plays we had worked on in training. Unfortunately this was the only win for the day, loosing the remaining 3 games by very close margins, by some very stiff competition. Did we mention the coach was a Vixens player? The team still has the State Finals to look forward to and whether win or loose we are so extremely proud of the way the team has conducted themselves and are grateful for the strong team connection we have all been able to make.

Our Northcote High Senior Girls Basketball team participated in State Schools Victoria regional finals on Wednesday 24 August at Coburg Basketball Stadium.
The team played solid basketball throughout, with the competition reduced to a 5 school round robin format on the day as 3 qualifying schools were unable to field teams.
Our first match was a tight contest where we drew with St Helena Secondary College.
The second game was a tough loss to a strong Melbourne Girls College team, followed by a great win against Mill Park Secondary College.
Our final game was a nail biter, with Sacred Heart Kyneton coming from behind to win by 1 point on the buzzer. This placed our team outside of regional grand final contention by the narrowest of margins. A great effort by the Kyneton team considering they only had 4 players!
A great effort by all players who attended and for those in year 11 we look forward to next year and hopefully progressing further in 2023!

We would like to thank Anthony for coaching our Senior Girls Basketball team. Anthony held a training session at school and also coached on the day. Thank you also to his daughter Emma for scoring. Emma is an Ex student of Northcote who is currently studying Physio.
Our year 9/10 Basketball teams recently competed in the Darebin Division Competition. All 4 of our teams had some very competitive matches throughout the day. Our Northcote A girls team finished on top and came home as over winners on the day. They will now progress through to the Regionals which is to be held on October 12 at Coburg Stadium. A big thank you to Cathy Lester for running training sessions, selecting the teams and coaching on the day. We would also like to thank our Yr 12 Students Ryan Jamieson and Tarah Brown for coaching the teams and also to Toby Stanford for scoring and jumping on court to referee when required.
Basketball is one of our most popular sports with many of our students involved in local clubs and competitions. To enable everyone to have chance to show their skills and be part of the school team, we ran a trials tournament last Thursday. One hundred and twenty Year 7 and 8 students descended on the new Narrenjerri stadium, with the hope of representing our school at the divisional level later this term. The quality of basketball was seriously impressive and the behavior and the attitude of the students was excellent. We couldn't have put on this event without our student coaches, umpires in Year 9-11 who were instrumental in the running of the day, and shone as excellent role models to our junior students. Well done to all participants.
