Hybrid Humans in Visual Art

Alana B's work in progress

Sculpture works in progress

This semester the Year 8 Art students have embarked upon a wonderfully imaginative, creative journey, developing their very own Hybrid Human artworks. The art rooms have been a flurry of newspaper, masking tape and party masks that form a base for their sculptures. Students first dry sculpt their Hybrid Human artworks, using tape to bind newspaper into the form of their creature. They will then get messy with Papier Mache, smoothing the surface of the artworks and bringing it all together into one, resolved final artwork.

The students have been studying the work of historical and contemporary artists to gather inspiration and think about new ideas, connecting their own imaginations with inspirational sources beyond their immediate environment.
