Sports Report

Loddon Mallee Region - Year 7 Boys Soccer

It was a heart stopping finish to the LMR Year 7 boys soccer final at Jack Eddy Oval back in July!

As the final whistle blew, it was a nil all draw, despite the St Joseph's crew maintaining most of the play in their attacking end.

The game went into time-on with five minutes at each end but the score remained 0-0.

The intensity of the game then stepped up a notch with a penalty kick out! Although we went down 3-4, our boys were relentless, determined and displayed a great sense of sportsmanship on and off the pitch.

Well done team and a big thank you to Ms Trinity Keath and Mr Seb Monohan for supporting the students on the day.

Loddon Mallee Region - Year 7 Boys AFL, Year 8 Boys AFL & Year 7&8 Girls AFL

Our Junior girls and boys made the trek to Mildura for the LMR competition last week. Despite the early start, our teams showed great determination and persistence against the best in the region.

Our junior girls fought hard all day and after two wins and a loss, they finished up in second place. Well done girls and thank you to Ms Irvine and Ms Clarke for coaching.

Our Year 8 boys had a tough day on the field, with some close matches which saw them defeated by St Joseph’s Mildura and Catherine McAuley College but victorious against Bendigo South East College and St Mary MacKillop College.

Great effort team and thank you to Mr Taylor for coaching!

Our Year 7 boys played exceptionally well and were undefeated all day!

The boys came up against St Joseph’s College Mildura in their first game. In slippery conditions the first half was low scoring with our boys unable to capitalise on a number of forward entries. The second half saw great improvement in our ball movement and skills. The midfield was excellent winning most clearances and our forwards began to convert.

St Joseph’s College Echuca won by 6 goals. Best players were: Butterworth, Avard, Hatfield, Anderson and Watters.

CMC had beaten St Joes Mildura in their game, so our boys were preparing for a tougher opposition in our second game when we played them. The first 5 minutes of this game saw a 5 goals to zero start with our boys playing exceptionally well. The midfield didn’t lose a clearance and our team was tackling with excellent intensity. All players played their role and contributed to the comfortable win over CMC by 10 goals.

Highlights for this game were Charlie Sutton kicking 9 goals, Jackson Butterworth’s pre-game speech and Whan’s dramatic return from injury. Best players were: Sutton, Butterworth, Whan and Richardson.

The boys represented the school and themselves very well and will now progress to the next stage for a new challenge.

Mr David Armfield

A very special thank you to Ned Ash-Townrow and Campbell Orr for volunteering to umpire in Mildura! Thank you to the coaches, Mr Les Butler and Mr David Armfield.

Loddon Mallee Region - Year 9 & 10 Boys and Girls AFL

Last Wednesday it was our Intermediate Girls and Boys turn to head to Swan Hill for the Loddon Mallee Region (LMR) competition.

Their St Joseph’s College pride and great sportsmanship shone throughout the day, just like the sun, as they battled it out for some mixed results.

Although this is the end of their campaign, both teams are to be congratulated for their efforts.

Thank you to the coaching crew Mr Kyle Coates, Mr Tyler Phillips, Ms Jorden Irvine and Ms Blaize Hearn.
