Over the weekend, 25 of our students from Years 8 to 12, travelled to Townsville to compete in the NQ All Schools Touch Football Championship.  It was a fantastic weekend enjoyed by all students and staff.  Our 2021 tour saw our students rally together, allowing us to tour with an Open Mixed and Junior Mixed Team.

It proved to be a successful weekend for both teams with our Junior Mixed being named as Runners Up after being defeated in extra time in their tough Grand-final against Bowen State High School.  Whilst our Open Mixed narrowly missed out on the Semi-finals due to 4 touchdowns after matching Mirani State High School in points on the ladder.  This was tough to hear especially as they defeated the Runners Up St Anthony’s Catholic College in their final round game that day.  However, students have already enthusiastically started planning for the 2022 All Schools Tour, where we hope to see St Mary’s come away as Champions in both Mixed divisions.

A huge thank you to Miss Meg McNamara, Miss Kate Atwell and Mr Dorian Carey for supporting our students in the lead up to and whilst at the event.  I also wish to thank Mr Rob Anderson and Ms Jodi Stevens for their guidance, assistance and support in organising the logistics of the weekend, along with Family Connect for their continued support of Touch Football at St Mary’s.

I am already excited for our 2022 Tour and cannot wait to see what our students can accomplish!
