YEAR 7 NEWS…

Welcome back to Term 3! What an exciting term we have ahead. Next week we are heading off to our first secondary school camp down at Echo Creek located just outside Tully. I am looking forward to these three days with the students to see them in a different environment to normal and share in the many challenges they overcome during the three days. We are all set to go with some finalising of activities and equipment required. On Tuesday during our year level assembly, I went through in detail the camp expectations around clothing, sleeping and behaviour on camp as per the email home with the attached information. If you have any questions around the camp please email or phone the College at your earliest convenience so we can assist as best possible. The students are certainly excited about the camp and looking forward to the adventures ahead. We are very fortunate to have some excellent staff members who are joining us on this adventure which I thank and certainly could not do without.

Congratulations to all students who participated in the Athletics carnival last week. It was wonderful to see so many students involved in the day and cheering on their fellow house mates. I would also like to pass on my best wishes for those who are participating in the TCS Athletics trials next Wednesday and then travelling down to camp.

In Week 6 SMCC will celebrate St Mary’s Day. This is a day where we recognise Mary and her willingness to say ‘YES’ to God’s request. We celebrate the day with a whole College Mass in the Nazareth Pavilion. Upon the completion of the Mass students are provided a piece of cake in celebration of Mary’s sacrifice for us all. This will be distributed in house colours therefore making it very important that all students wear house uniform on this day. Students will then participate in a series of activities during periods 3 – 4 happening around the College grounds. I encourage all students to get involved as much as possible in these activities. Finally, students are provided with a sausage on bread for lunch and of course the tuckshop is available all day. After lunch students will be presented with a whole school concert from the many talented students, we have here at St Mary’s. Students have had the opportunity to audition for this show by contacting Mr Chris Oxford passed through the College student notices. We look forward to this day as a celebration of who we are at St Mary’s on Wednesday August 18th – Week 6.

Soon students will need to begin their subject selections for next year around which language they would like to study. The two language choices are Italian and Japanese. Many students will have already sampled some of these two languages in their electives. Unfortunately, not all students will have studied them yet due to the rotation continuing all year and us only being in Term 3. Please have discussions with your child around which language they may be interested in Year 8. More information will come out shortly regarding language choices.

Finally, as always if you have any concerns regarding your child at St Mary’s in either curriculum or pastoral care, please contact your child’s teacher for the relevant subject or me for support.
