SACRED HEART WINS ACC SWIMMING CARNIVAL

Last Wednesday, Sacred Heart won its 12th ACC 'A' Division Swimming Carnival. The victory was hard fought, but in the end superior backstrokers and solid division one relays saw the College prevail John XXIII by 34 points.

 

Apart from winning the Combined Aggregate trophy, Sacred Heart were also victors in the Junior Girls and Senior Boys sections.

 

There were many outstanding individual efforts at the carnival. Some of these included:

 

UNDER 13

  • Cassie Joyce (Year 7 Thu Duc) was an excellent performer, coming 4th in the Champion Girl for her age group. Wins in 100m freestyle and relay and 3rds in butterfly and medley relay were the highlights.
  • Amelia Hill (Year 7 Hannan) had a good day, winning her freestyle event and division one relay.
  • Aoife Dunne (Year 7 Kimberley) was a strong contributor, winning her backstroke and relay events and coming 3rd in breaststroke and 4th in freestyle.
  • Ava Costain (Year 7 Carden) swam well, recording a close 3rd in division one breaststroke and was a member of the winning relay team.
  • Kai Barrett (Year 7 Barlow) was a major contributor finishing 4th in the Champion Boy with 37 points. A win in breaststroke and good placings in freestyle, backstroke and relay were the highlights.
  • Patrick Campbell (Year 7 Normandy)performed well to register good 3rds in 100m freestyle, backstroke and relay.
  • Lachlan Beveridge (Year 7 Carden)swam very well in his No Limits freestyle and backstroke events.

UNDER 14

  • Morgan Buck (Year 8 Hannan) was a strong contributor, finishing 5th in the Champion Girl.  A good 2nd in division one backstroke was the highlight.
  • Beth Roebuck (Year 8 Thu Duc) swam brilliantly to win her freestyle event.
  • Zaccariah McKenzie (Year 8 Hannan) was the mainstay of the Under 14 boys, coming equal 4th in the Champion Boy with solid swims in freestyle, breaststroke and butterfly events.
  • Eamon Stott (Year 8 Hannan) was impressive in winning his backstroke event.
  • Luca Papotto (Year 8 O'Reilly) gained good 3rds in freestyle and relay.

 

UNDER 15

  • Emma Stewart (Year 9 Barlow) was outstanding, winning the Champion Girl for her age group with 46 points. Great wins in 100m freestyle, butterfly and backstroke and a 3rd in breaststroke were the highlights.
  • Dylan Begley (Year 9 Barlow) swam well, coming 2nd in freestyle and relay.
  • Heidi Walker (Year 9 Kimberley) gained good placings in her freestyle and relay events.
  • Eva Hill (Year 9 Hannan)made strong contributions in her breaststroke, backstroke and relay events.
  • Tadhg Smith (Year 9 Thu Duc) was brilliant and came 2nd in the Champion Boy with 35 points. Wins in 100m freestyle and backstroke (in near record time) and 2nds in butterfly and relay were the highlights.
  • Finn Barrett (Year 9 O'Reilly) was a major contributor in this age group with strong placings in freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and relay.
  • Declan Cooper (Year 9 Hannan) performed well, coming 3rd in freestyle and relay.
  • Zac Varricchio (Year 9 Hannan) swam well to gain a good 3rd in breaststroke.

UNDER 16

  • Sam Carmignani (Year 10 Kimberley) was the most outstanding swimmer of the carnival, winning the Champion Boy with the maximum points score of 48. Wins in butterfly (in near record time), freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke and relay were the highlights.
  • Finn Knox (Year 10 Trinity) was brilliant winning his freestyle, breaststroke and relay events.
  • Luke Ogden (Year 10 Normandy) swam well, coming 3rd in backstroke and 1st in the relay.
  • Eoghan Barrowclough (Year 10 Hannan) gained a good placing in freestyle and was a member of the victorious relay team.

 

UNDER 17

  • Jordane Sharafizad (Year 11 Barlow) was an excellent performer, coming 2nd in the Champion Girl with 41 points. Strong placings in freestyle, breaststroke, butterfly, backstroke and relay were the highlights.
  • Beth Bamforth (Year 11 O'Reilly) was a strong contributor with good placings in backstroke, 100m freestyle and relay events.
  • Julia Trimboli (Year 11 Thu Duc) swam well in her freestyle, breaststroke and relay events.
  • Ayla Radici (Year 9 Thu Duc) swam up two age groups and was part of the relay team that came 2nd.
  • James Neal (Year 11 Thu Duc) swam brilliantly to come 2nd in the Champion Boy with 34 points. A win in breaststroke and 2nds in 100m freestyle, backstroke and relay were the highlights.
  • Fletcher Bromwell (Year 10 Carden) raced up an age group and was an excellent performer with good placings in butterfly, freestyle, backstroke and the relay.
  • Cooper Howard (Year 11 Carden) was a strong contributor, with 2nds in his freestyle and relay events.

UNDER 19

  • Swimming Captain Samantha Crusan (Year 12 Trinity) lead from the front with an outstanding effort to be Champion Girl with 46 points. Wins in freestyle and breaststroke and 2nds in butterfly and backstroke were the highlights.
  • Jesse Jacob (Year 8 Kimberley) raced up three age groups! Jesse performed well in her freestyle and breaststroke events.
  • Riley Smith (Year 12 Kimberley) recorded a great win in his freestyle event and was 2nd in his relay event.
  • Captain Lachlan Cooper (Year 12 Thu Duc) was a solid contributor in his freestyle, butterfly, backstroke and relay events.
  • Sport Captain Charlie Burke (Year 12 Thu Duc) swam a great 3rd in his 100m event.
  • Head Boy Mitchell Trimboli (Year 12 Thu Duc) registered good placings in breaststroke, backstroke and relay events.

I would once again like to acknowledge the efforts of all associated with the team, the members of the team, Mrs Kelly-Thatcher for her training programs and the Health and Physical Education staff who drove the bus to training in the morning.
