UWA STARTER 2023
The UWA Starter provides senior secondary school students with the unique opportunity to start their university experience early by completing micro-credentials through UWA while still in school.
The College sees this as a valuable opportunity for Year 11 students looking to build their academic portfolio and who have an interest in the micro-credentials on offer and/or UWA as a future university destination. While the program is open to Year 12 students, given the compressed nature of the Year 12 calendar and academic timetable, we do not recommend their participation in this program; nonetheless, this does not preclude a Year 12 student from applying.
What are the benefits of UWA Starter?
- Access university-level study in courses you're passionate about.
- Learn from UWA academics who are experts in their field.
- Try different course areas to help you decide what you want to study at university.
- Gain credit towards selected UWA bachelor degrees by completing 3 micro-credentials.
- Gain access to university resources (library, online resources and other campus facilities).
- Receive a UWA Professional Development Transcript at the end of your studies, listing all completed UWA micro-credentials – great for university entry and your resume!
- Successful completion of UWA Starter micro-credentials can also contribute towards admission to UWA via Experience-based entry.
UWA Starter micro-credentials will be offered during Terms 2, 3 and 4. Each is delivered either fully online or online with on-campus learning activities scheduled outside school hours or during school holidays, allowing students to work around school, social and family commitments. UWA Starter fees are $250 (inc. GST) per micro-credential for students from participating partner schools.

An on-campus orientation day will be held on Friday 14 April (during the school holidays). This day will provide students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the UWA campus and facilities. It will also function to provide them a series of sessions to help them navigate the online platforms they will use over their UWA Starter study. The sessions will be recorded for viewing by students that enrol in the later rounds of micro-credentials offered during Term 3 and Term 4 if they are unable to attend.
Registrations for the Orientation Day are due by Thursday 6 April (Week 10, Term 1).
Students in Year 11 who are interested in partaking in any UWA Starter offerings are asked to contact me ASAP to discuss their suitability for the program and to obtain an enrolment form.
