Relay Record!

Six Glen Eira College students progressed to the State Athletics Finals in 2018.  After running a Division Record in Term 3, our junior relay team showed a massive two and a half second improvement through the various levels of competition to claim fourth place in the state final.  Below, William Wong and Cameron McCutcheon write about their experience.

On Monday 22nd October, 4 students from Year 7 participated in the 4x100m relay at the School Sports Victoria athletics championships. In this event, they achieved a 4th place out of 8 state finalist teams.

The first official race that the team participated in was at the Division Final which they won and set a division record of 53:91 seconds. After this success they started training often in school and out of school for the coming Regional Championships with the aim to qualify for the State Championships.

At the Regional championships the team came first again improving their time to 53:27 seconds. That's when the team started training a lot to try and win a medal. Their time had qualified them second overall, meaning they would run in lane three. The race was run at 6:12 PM so the students went to school before participating. Arriving at the competition the students were nervous and slightly tired from school that day, and felt really lucky to be there. They did really well in their final race coming fourth overall and achieving a personal best of 51:42 seconds.

Congratulations to Cameron, William W, Roanin and Jay for competing so well.
