Softballers Shine

It’s not every day you receive a wildcard invitation to play in the state championships, but that’s exactly what happened for our Year 8 girls just  weeks before the tournament.  They had been a close second place at the Regional Final so they leapt at the chance to play in the highest level of competition available through School Sports Victoria.  Mr Peter Bales and senior student Sierra Danon assisted by hosting training sessions in the lead up to the competition and the girls were rewarded with a top 3 finish.

Lauren Raftopolous prepared this report.

On Thursday the Year 8 girls’ softball team went to the state finals. We arrived at school especially early and took a bus to Jells Park in Waverley. The first team we played was Brentwood Secondary College; we had a slow start in the first innings and eventually lost 5-3 but it was a good effort. The second school we played was Maribyrnong College – during this game we really lifted our performance and defeated them with a score of 14-1. The last school we played was Hazel Glen College.  This was another close game but this time we came out on top with a score of 9-7. Coming second in our pool means that we are third in the state which is a great result.  Thank you to our coaches who have assisted us this year.
