Baseball Brilliance

It has been a long wait for the Year 7 boys to play their state final.  They won their divisional final in Term 1 but only played their state final last week. Mr David Ebert has been steadfast in his dedication to coaching the team and we are also very appreciative of Darcy Messenger’s help in mentoring and guiding the boys.  Ultimately, the wait was worth the reward – a tremendous second place at the State Championships.

Their journey through the rounds of competition can be read about below.

The Year 7 boys baseball team first represented Glen Eira College at the Division Finals for interschool sport. In this competition we beat every team and we progressed through to the Regional Finals. Our coaches Mr Ebert and Darcy Messenger helped us by providing training every Monday to help us improve. At the Regional Finals, we beat every team in the round robin section of the competition, meaning we were through to the final. In the final we won 5-4 in overtime meaning we qualified for the State Final.

On 21st November the successful baseball team competed in the State Final. In the group stage, 3 of the 4 teams finished on 2 wins and 1 loss, meaning it went down to run difference. Our team made it through to the finals because we had the highest run difference by one run. In the final we played Maribyrnong. They had an amazing pitcher so we weren’t able to score any runs in the first three innings, but once we went into overtime they had to change pitchers. They scored another three runs and we weren’t able to score any, so unfortunately we lost the final 5-2.

Congratulations to the entire baseball team and thank you Mr Ebert and Darcy for spending so much of your time coaching us.
