ROALD DAHL DAY 13th September 2021
Roald Dahl Day is celebrated in Australia and Worldwide on Roald Dahl's birthday, 13th September 1916. Annually, the world celebrates the stories of the beloved children's storyteller and the illustrious author of so many unforgettable works of fiction, including The BFG, The Twits, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Fantastic Mr Fox, and Matilda.
It commemorates Roald Dahl and all his incredible achievements and magic he brought to, and continues to bring, children everywhere.
Roald Dahl lived an extraordinary and successful life as one of the best children’s authors of all time. He wrote twenty children's books and published forty-eight books in total over his lifetime.
His books have sold more than 250 million copies worldwide. Many of his books have been turned into musicals and even a few operas.
There’s a Roald Dahl museum in Great Missenden, UK with three galleries and many of interactive activities for kids and families to enjoy.

Roald Dahl was born in Llandaff, Wales to Norwegian parents and was named after the Norwegian explorer, Roald Amundsen, who was the first man to reach Antarctica.
Roald Dahl was a chocolate historian and medical inventor? During the Second World War he served in the Royal Air Force as a fighter pilot and a spy. Whilst working for MI6 He worked alongside Ian Fleming, the author of James Bond.

On 1st September the theme for the CBCA Book Week 2022 was announced with the help of children's picture book creator and Darug woman Jasmine Seymour, who won the CBCA Award for New Illustrator in 2020 for her beautiful book 'Baby Business' (published by Magabala Books). It was a great opportunity to choose the first day of spring to make the announcement because September 1st was Indigenous Literacy Day in Australia this year and our 2022 CBCA Book Week theme is "Dreaming with eyes open..."
