Open Girls Football

The Open Girls Football team played a cliff hangar against Mudgee High School on Tuesday.  Despite Cowra having repeated shots at goal and much possession of the ball, Mudgee scored first.  The girls knuckled down and played great defensively to prevent any more goals - Olivia Perkins was on fire in goals.  A goal late in the first half by Chloe Lanham levelled the score.  The second half was rugged with the heat starting to take its toll.  Both teams were unable to break the dead lock.  Extra time was needed and a great run up the sideline by Jacqui Dresser resulted in a corner for Cowra.  Ginger Oliver placed a beautiful kick into the box close to the goal and Chloe Lanham ran in and headed it in.  A great game and well done Mudgee for showing excellent team spirit.  Thanks Sean Leyland, Sam Long and Emerson Baratto for officiating and Drew Willis for retrieving the balls from down the hill.

Congratulations also go to Chloe Lanham and Ginger Oliver on their selection in the Western Area Open Girls Football team.

Open Boys Football

The Open Boys Football team travelled to West Wyalong for Round 1 of the NSW Combined High Schools Knockout.  West Wyalong gave us a scare by scoring in the first 5 minutes but the boys collected themselves, played as a team and finished with a decisive 10 - 1 win.  Goals were scored by Andrew - 1, Gary - 2, Sam L - 1, Sam D - 1, Clayten - 3, Dinous - 1 and Bevan - 1.  Forbes High School will be our next opponent.

Cowra vs Forbes High

The Open Boys Football played the second round of the NSW Combined High Schools Football Knockout against Forbes High School.  It was a good team effort with the boys combining well to finish with another decisive 13 - 1 win.  After two relatively easy games, our next match against Dubbo Campus should be a much greater challenge.  Thank you to James Kirwan who stepped in at the last minute to referee the game. Also thank you to Montana Walker and Chloe Lanham for running the lines and Darcy Foxall for collecting the stray balls down the hill.
