Western Swimming Trials
Successful Day
On Thursday 15 March, the Cowra High Swimming team travelled to Dubbo to compete in the annual Western Trials, attempting to qualify for the upcoming State Titles at the Olympic Aquatic Centre.
Cowra High, as ever, took a large and highly motivated squad of 20 swimmers to Dubbo - not forgetting the similarly large and enthusiastic group of supporters!
Cowra High has a fine tradition of doing well at the Western Trials. We always punch above our weight, we always push for places and manage to contribute a large proportion of the Western team that will travel to Sydney. 2018 was to be no exception to this rule.
A number of swimmers managed to qualify on an individual basis. Special mention must go to Matt Dunn, Finn Ryan and the Browne sisters, Jade and Zoe, all of whom not only qualified but also dominated their age groups, qualifying for multiple events. It was also very enjoyable to see rookie Western Secondary swimmer Jada Buchan qualify for the 100 Fly. Well done and good luck to those swimmers.
Cowra High has an excellent record in the relay events. Again 2018 was no exception. We sent four relays, all of whom qualified. They are the 13 year Girls: Zoe Browne, Jada Buchan, Keira Buckley and Mackenzie Crook. The 14 Year old boys: Eoghan Killick, Jake Roberts, Jacob Haeata and Mac Webster. The 16 year old Girls: Lucy Sutherland, Mikelli Garratt, Tess Roberts and Kara HInderager. The 17 year old boys Matt Dun, Sam Dun, Finn Ryan and Sam Frazer. The best of luck to these swimmers.
As well as terrific competitors, all of the Cowra High swimmers were wonderful ambassadors for the school in terms of their behaviour and sportsmanship.
I would also like to thank all the parents and friends who made the trek to Dubbo. Again, I would also like to thank local coach Di Browne, who has managed to get the best out of these students as swimmers. A huge amount of hard work and long hours goes into this sport at this level.
