Principal's Report

Principal's Report

This week we bid farewell to Haruna Yamagishi, our Japanese exchange student.  Over the last 12 months, Haruna has proven herself to be a true asset to Cowra High School.  She has made herself part of the Cowra High student population, a challenge in itself for any international student in an Australian school.  Haruna has not rested at this achievement; she has gone out of her way to actively contribute to the school.  I believe the stand out has been the manner in which she has utilised her personal knowledge and experience to add a level of cultural depth to our Japanese lessons that could not otherwise be achieved.  I know that she has greatly enjoyed her experiences in Australia and as part of Cowra High, but I believe the students of Cowra High have gained as much, if not more, from her stay with us.  I thank the Cowra High/ Seikei Committee, all the host families that have looked after Haruna and Mrs Perkins for coordinating the stay.  Without the support from all involved, these wonderful exchanges wouldn’t be possible.

Over the last fortnight we have had some great sporting success.

We had 20 swimmers compete at the Western Region Carnival, with 17 being successful in making it into the Western Region team to swimming in Sydney in April. I congratulate all the swimmers in making it to the Western Carnival and wish Zoe Brown, Jada Buchan, MacKenzie Crook, Eoghan Killick, Jake Roberts, Keira Buckley, Jacob Haeata, Kara Hinderager, Mikelli Garratt, Sam Dun, Finn Ryan, Tess Roberts, Lucy Sutherland, Jade Browne, Matt Dun and Sam Frazer the best of luck in Sydney.

We have also had Jade Te Weehi, Xavier Gauci and Mikelli Garratt trial for the Western Region Boys and Girls hockey teams.  Again we have had great success with Jade and Xavier being selected for the Western Region team and Mikelli making the Shadow squad.  They now progress to the respective State Championships in May and June.

Last week Mrs Williams our Careers Adviser organised for the Skills Roadshow to visit Cowra High.  This was a great experience for students on their journey to life after school.  It exposed them to a variety of career paths and opened eyes to opportunities they might not otherwise have been aware of.  I am very pleased Mrs Williams was able to provide our students with this wonderful experience.

This year Easter falls during the school term.  Please be aware that the school will not operate during the public holidays, but teaching and learning will recommence on Tuesday 3 April with Friday 13 April the last day of Term 1.

Cowra High will be conducting our first parent/teacher interviews for 2018 on 12 April between 4.30pm and 7.30pm.  These interviews will be for students Years 7 to 12.  Stay tuned for information regarding online booking procedures.

Have a great fortnight.
