Primary School News

Mr Liam Beatty, Head of Primary School

Dear Primary Families,

Yesterday our entire College community came together for what is one of the biggest days of our school year, the Feast of St Marcellin Champagnat. This year’s celebration was of particular importance, marking 150 years of the Marist Brothers in Australia.

As a community we celebrated the day with a special Mass presided by Archbishop Mark Coleridge. This was followed by a shared meal for over 2000 boys and staff and the traditional Primary ‘Binball’ Championships.

During his homily, Archbishop Mark reiterated the importance of the three violets of Marist Spirituality: Modesty, Simplicity and Humility. As members of the Marist Family, these violets continue to guide and challenge us to be our best selves each and every day.

The Marist Brothers continue to be living examples of each of these qualities, as they have been for the past 150 years. Through their dedication to the vocation and mission of making Jesus known and loved, they have shaped and formed the lives of many communities across Australia. Last week my wife Angie and I were privileged to be invited for dinner by members of the Brothers community who reside at the College. Needless to say, the Marist hospitality was on full display as we enjoyed an evening with Br Ralph, Br Jeff, Br Paul, Br John, Br Peter, Br Dan.

Walkathon

Thank you to all students and families who participated in the Walkathon on Sunday. It was a huge event and a fantastic opportunity to showcase our wonderful community spirit and raise money. A big thank you to our staff and parents who volunteered on the day and any family members who joined in and walked the course with the boys.

Primary Chess – Around the Grounds

Last Friday, the Junior Chess team played St Peter Lutheran College. Both the A and B team played exceptionally well with a draw for the As and a win for the B team. The B team won all but one match which resulted in a big win for the Juniors. The team would like to give thanks to all the coaches, team members and encouragement given to the players before the game. Unfortunately, Senior teams lost against SPLC and we are looking to play them again next year, for the win!
