Catholic Schools Cross Country

Catholic Schools Cross Country

On 7 August, the Primary Cross Country team ventured to the east parklands for the annual Catholic Schools' Carnival. This year we took a team of 32 students who were selected from the school trials. Thankfully the threatening weather held off long enough for all boys to complete the course without the added discomfort of rain.

The 2km course is very challenging, but the slippery, soft conditions made it even tougher for the boys involved. Each race was highly competitive regardless of the number of participants. The field sizes varied from approximately 50 children in some divisions up to 200 competitors in others. The carnival format changed this year which allowed students in Year 3 to compete for the first time. Congratulations to all boys who represented Blackfriars on the day. The behaviour and attitude of the boys was exceptional and everyone represented the school with distinction.

The leading placegetters for Blackfriars were Jacob Short in Year 4 who finished 6th in the Year 4 A division. Jake Martin from Year 7 placed 10th in his division and Hamish Walsh was close behind in 11th. All other boys did their very best and enjoyed the opportunity to compete in their divisions.

Many thanks go to Mr Vo and Mrs Zandona for their assistance on the day and to all athletes for their participation.
