Primary Co-Curricular Report

Last week I was lucky enough to coach and umpire some of our teams. I was very impressed with the manner in which our boys competed and with the way in which they presented in team uniforms. After being involved with those teams, I couldn’t be more proud of the Blacks boys and their efforts.

On Tuesday I filled in as coach for the Year 4/5 basketball team. With no subs on the bench, our boys battled manfully, ultimately coming up one point short against St Paul's Lutheran. At no point did our boys give up or complain about umpiring, fighting it out until the end and then shaking hands with their opposition after an exciting game. They supported each other, played the game in great spirit and left the court with smiles on their faces, knowing that they had almost pinched a draw after being well-behind early in the game.

On Friday I umpired the Year 6/7 SAPSASA Knockout Football match vs Burnside Primary School. The team was missing a few regular players through injury or other commitments and was notably shorter as a team when compared to Burnside. Weather conditions were wild (seems to happen every time I pull on the high-viz gear and the whistle) and very difficult to contend with. The Blacks boys put up a very spirited showing, succumbing by 9 points in a low scoring game that with a bit of luck, could have fallen Blackfriars’ way. I was very impressed with the determination and sense of sportsmanship towards the umpires and opposition. I was also impressed with the way that all boys chipped in after the game to help clean the club rooms and pack up equipment. All associated with the team should have been proud of the effort on Friday!

Attendance at Training

Thank you to those families that frequently attend training, especially before school sessions. Attendance last week was improved but there is still room for all boys to attend. Attendance at training has an impact on your child’s involvement on game day as priority goes to those students who regularly attend, so please finish the season off strongly in this regard.

Liam Waters – SAPSASA State Football

Liam represented South Australia in the Under 12 National Schools Football Championship in Western Australia last week. He was part of the team that won the silver medal after wins against Queensland and Western Australia. Victoria proved too strong going through undefeated. Weather conditions were tough but Liam and the team had a blast and enjoyed the experience immensely.

Well done, Liam, on your achievements and selection in the State team.
