Year 12

Hello, it’s with great honour that I accept the position of Deputy Principal at Wyndham College. I look forward to meeting the students and parents and carers of this community. I have many years experience helping students and staff achieve the certificate of the HSC and transitioning students to TAFE, the workforce and other post school opportunities that meet their needs and goals.

I look forward to getting to know Year 12, as we work towards the fast-approaching HSC practical submissions and written examinations. Home life can play an import role in student success. I’d like to share a few good resources to support families in setting up a great learning environment for their children at home.

Attendance also plays a huge part in students’ ability to succeed. We will be rewarding students, who have excellent attendance, with our Everyday Counts initiative and by setting attendance targets in order to attend the Year 12 Formal. I look forward to meeting more parents and carers at the upcoming 'Meet and Greet' afternoon.

Year 11

Welcome to all Year 11 students and to their families and friends, who will support them on their new journey here at Wyndham College. As the Year 11 Deputy Principal, I look forward to taking this journey with you and experiencing all the highs and lows along the way. Most Year 11 students now have their Wyndham College student card, which is used to sign in and out of the College, as well as being their Library card. Students who enrolled late will receive their cards when they have been processed after School Photo Day.

It will be exciting and it will be a little daunting at times as well, especially when the pressure is on due to assessments and exams. However, nothing is so insurmountable that we can’t get through it together. Wyndham has a variety of staff supporting students, including the Year Advisers, Student Support Officer, School Counsellors, Engagement & Wellbeing Counsellor, Social Worker and Careers Adviser.

I encourage you all to face the future with the belief that, with hard work and perseverance, you can do whatever you set your minds to. Your journey will be one very exhilarating, thrilling, and rewarding ride!

Uniform

The uniform looks fantastic on everyone! The newer items - the navy shirts and Wyndham hoodie - appear extremely popular and look amazing. Just a reminder that track pants or leggings are not part of our uniform and should not be worn to school. In colder weather, the long black school or business pants should be worn.

Students are expected to wear the full Wyndham College uniform each day. If you have sport, then you need to change into and out of your sports uniform. Sports uniforms are not permitted to be worn in all classes throughout the day.

College Grounds

Since Year 11 arrived, the College grounds are buzzing again with lots of excitement and socialising. Unlike some other schools, territorial areas do not exist here at Wyndham. Year 12 does not have any separate areas from Year 11 in the school grounds and as a community, there is harmony and acceptance. Students are reminded that they must stay within Wyndham College grounds during the day. This includes the areas of shared facilities. Students are not permitted to enter onto the grounds or in the buildings of St John Paul II Catholic College.

There are many areas where students can sit throughout recess, lunch and study sessions. However, I need to remind all students that the basketball courts and ovals are only used by students actively engaged in playing sports and only when there is a teacher on supervision. These areas are ACTIVE areas and are not spaces for students to be sitting while chatting or eating.

Study Habits

Year 11 students are still familiarising themselves with the structures and routines of the College. While some students are enrolled in TAFE courses that take place elsewhere and at other times, there’s no such thing as a ‘free’ period here at Wyndham. All students who are not in a timetabled lesson are expected to use that time to the best of their advantage. Assessment tasks are starting to be issued and it is vital that students complete all tasks on time and to the best of their ability. The library is a wonderfully bright and stimulating environment and the librarian is eager to see students utilise the facilities offered there. I encourage students to explore the library and see what it offers.

Arrival and Departure

Students, parents and carers are reminded that students are required to be in all their timetabled sessions for the full session. So, if students have a class timetabled session 1, they should be at the College before 8.00am. Students are also responsible for moving promptly to class after breaks.

Students arrive at, and leave the College only once per day. If students do not have a timetabled session 1 class, they are permitted to arrive after 8am. If this is the case, students are expected to be at the College by 10.00am in time for Connect where their attendance is recorded. If a student does not have a timetabled session 4 class, they are permitted to leave the College after their last timetabled class, but they must sign out at the College Office.
