Performing Arts

What a wonderful term it has been in Performing Arts! From the magical world of Neverland to the big screen scores of Hollywood, our students have been singing, playing, strumming and discovering the joy of music. Here is a snapshot of what each year level has been exploring.
🎵 Prep — Off to Neverland!
Our Prep students have been swept away to Neverland through the beloved song "I Won't Grow Up" from Peter Pan the Musical! Through singing and movement, they have been exploring music in the most joyful and imaginative way.
A big focus this term has been developing each child's singing voice — learning to pitch match, feel the beat and explore rhythm. Best of all, every student has been building the confidence to have a go, try new things and express themselves freely. It has been a delight to watch!
🎶 Year 1 — Hello, Recorder!
There was great excitement in Year 1 this term as students received their very first personal instrument — a recorder! This is a huge milestone and the children have embraced it with enthusiasm.
Students have been learning the fundamentals: correct posture, breath control and beginning to develop the fine motor skills needed to cover finger holes and produce clear notes. It is the start of a wonderful musical journey!
🎵 Year 2 — Recorder Rockstars
Year 2 students are going from strength to strength on the recorder! Building on their existing skills, they have been consolidating their first three notes — B, A and G — and are now extending their range with C and D.
With five notes at their fingertips, the students can now play a growing repertoire of songs — including some seriously cool rock songs that have had the classroom buzzing with energy. Watch out, world!
🎵 Years 3 & 4 — Ukulele Time!
Years 3 and 4 have been introduced to their very first string instrument — the ukulele, and the response has been fantastic! Students have learned how to hold and position the instrument correctly, explored a variety of strumming patterns and have begun playing chords.
All of this hard work is building towards something special: performing the song "Lava", the beautiful love song made famous by the Disney Pixar short film. We cannot wait to share it with you!
🎬 Years 5 & 6 — The Music Behind the Magic
Our senior students have been diving into the fascinating world of leitmotifs — a musical theme that tells a story and is associated with a particular character, place or idea. Think of it as a musical signature!
Students have been analysing iconic film scores from Harry Potter, Star Wars, Superman and Jurassic Park, identifying how composers use music to guide our emotions and tell powerful stories.
This exploration will continue into Term 2, where the exciting challenge awaits: composing their very own original leitmotif. We are looking forward to seeing and hearing what they create!
Thank you for your continued support of our Performing Arts program. If you have any questions about what your child is learning, please don't hesitate to reach out. Here's to a term full of music, creativity and confidence!
