Show Band Wows Secondary Assembly
Congratulations to three of our MAG Show Band members on their outstanding performance at this week's Secondary Assembly. With only days until the opening night of Mary Poppins Jr., the audience was treated to a beautiful preview of the pre-show entertainment with a moving performance of "The Winner Takes It All" by ABBA.
Representing the nine-piece Show Band were Neave Dullard (Year 12) on piano and vocals, Gonzalo Duffy Oporto (Year 10) on first violin and Shriya Rayas (Year 6) on second violin. Their polished performance was a wonderful showcase of the talent, dedication and hard work that has gone into preparing for production week. Well done to all members of the Show Band - we can't wait to hear the full performance at the Paramount Theatre!
Production Week Begins!
Production Week has officially arrived! After months of rehearsals, planning and preparation, our cast, crew, directors and musicians are ready for Bump In at the Paramount Theatre on Monday.
Before each performance of Mary Poppins Jr., our nine-piece MAG Show Band will entertain audiences with a 20-minute pre-show featuring musical theatre favourites, sing-alongs and a few crowd-pleasing classics. We look forward to sharing this exciting performance with audiences over the production season.
CALLING ALL SECONDARY MUSICIANS for this Year's Springtime Concert - 2 September
Preparations are now underway for our annual Springtime Concert, one of the highlights of the Secondary Music calendar.
The concert celebrates the wonderful musical talents of our Secondary students and welcomes performances from soloists, duos, trios and ensembles across all instruments and voices. Students are encouraged to begin preparing a performance item with their tutor or music teacher. We also look forward to performances from our Senior Choir, Folk Ensemble and Drumline A.
More details, including the confirmed venue, will be shared soon. We encourage all Secondary music students to consider taking part in what promises to be another fantastic evening of live music.
Welcome, Indiya Davey!
We are delighted to welcome Indiya Davey to the MAG Music Department as our violin tutor and Year 4 Strings Program teacher while Erin Heycox is on maternity leave. We also extend our warmest congratulations to Erin and her partner, Lachy, as they prepare to welcome their new baby. We wish them every happiness during this exciting time.
Indiya is a passionate violinist with a love of classical, folk and country music. She also enjoys playing piano and guitar, singing, and sharing music with others. She has performed with a range of ensembles, including the Wangaratta Symphony Orchestra, and is currently studying a Bachelor of Music at Monash University while performing with the Monash Academy Orchestra.
Indiya believes music allows us to express joy, sadness and love, while creating meaningful connections with others. Outside of music, she enjoys reading, writing music, jamming with friends and leading youth camps. We are thrilled to have Indiya join the MAG community and know she will be a wonderful addition to our music program.
A Piano with a Beautiful Legacy
We are incredibly grateful to Miriam Jackson and her family for giving our school the opportunity to purchase a very special Yamaha piano, which now has a new home in JS14.
This piano belonged to Miriam's late mother, a gifted pianist, piano teacher and church pianist and organist who faithfully shared her love of music with others for more than 70 years. This piano was gifted to her by Miriam's sister, herself a dedicated teacher and school band conductor, whose passion for music and education touched many lives.
While parting with such a treasured family instrument was not an easy decision, Miriam shared that both her mother and sister would be delighted to know it will continue inspiring young musicians at MAG for generations to come.
We sincerely thank Miriam and her family for entrusting MAG with this instrument. We look forward to seeing countless students discover, enjoy and develop their love of piano and music with this instrument.
