AFL School Sport Australia Championships
We congratulate Sophie Millar, Ryan Strahan, Hannah Sara and Chloe Ryan, who have proudly represented Moama Anglican Grammar and New South Wales at the AFL School Sport Australia National Championships in Melbourne this week.
All four students have displayed outstanding commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, representing both their state and our school with pride.
After an impressive week of competition, Chloe, Hannah and Sophie have earned a place in today’s Gold Medal Match, while Ryan competed in today’s Bronze Medal Match.
We are incredibly proud of their achievements and the way they have conducted themselves on and off the field and wish them all the very best in their finals matches.
Independent Country Co-Educational Schools(ICCES) Secondary Debating Success
The School's teams did exceptionally well at the ICCES Debating competition on 28 July in Ballarat. Both Junior teams won their debates and secured the Overall Junior Trophy based on their combined points across the day. Francesca Starritt, Teagan Moon and Rosie Grant, speaking as the affirmative team, successfully argued that schools should move to a four-day week. The other Junior team, comprising Scarlette Roberts, Claudia Walshe and Haylee Clark, convinced the adjudicators that people who cheat in professional sport should not receive a lifetime ban, arguing the negative position.
The Senior team of Nate Holgate, Luca Caniglia and Gonzalo Oporto Duffy also won their debate. Arguing the negative case, they successfully debated that the ATAR system does not need to be completely overhauled.
The School's other senior team, Ava Whitbourn, Matilda Medland and Isobel Cunningham, narrowly missed a win against the Victorian State Debating Champion team. Arguing the affirmative position that Australia should lower the legal voting age to 16, they delivered an impressive performance against very worthy opponents.
In three of the four debates, Moama Anglican Grammar students were also awarded Best Speaker. Congratulations to Francesca Starritt, Scarlette Roberts and Luca Caniglia for this outstanding achievement and for the way they conducted themselves and presented their arguments.
Students represented the School with distinction throughout the day. They were gracious winners and supported, congratulated and encouraged one another in every debate.
Special recognition is also extended to Nate Holgate and Claudia Walshe, who joined their teams at short notice and debated as though they had been doing so for years.
It was a fantastic day and a wonderful celebration of student achievement.
Independent Country Co-Educational Schools (ICCES) Chess Competition
What a fantastic opportunity for the School's ICCES Chess students in Ballarat. Despite having limited practice and competing against many experienced chess club players, students performed exceptionally well. Most were able to secure at least one win, and even those who did not came away having played some exciting and highly competitive games.
Students represented Moama Anglican Grammar with pride, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship, resilience and a willingness to learn. They gained valuable experience in competitive chess and impressed judges, organisers and fellow competitors with their positive attitude and determination.
With the launch of the School's very own Chess Club on the horizon, there is great excitement about seeing students continue to develop their skills and achieve even greater success in the future.
ICCES Cross Country Competition
Our students recently travelled to Ballarat for the inaugural ICCES Cross Country event and, despite the freezing conditions, approached the day with determination and gave it their all.
A major highlight was Laura Stone's performance, finishing second in the Intermediate Girls event, while Esther Griffiths ran an outstanding race to place third in the Junior Girls. Both students competed strongly against tough opposition from the other ICCES schools.
The School's senior boys team, comprising Nate Ludlow and Charlie Reardon, also performed strongly, finishing fourth overall in the Senior Boys Teams competition at this inaugural event.
Congratulations to all students who represented Moama Anglican Grammar on the day. Running in such cold conditions was no easy feat, yet every student approached the challenge with a positive attitude and demonstrated great resilience throughout the event.
It was a terrific first appearance for Moama Anglican Grammar at the ICCES Cross Country event, and the School looks forward to seeing the competition continue to grow in the years ahead
Outstanding Result at NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships
Last week, Laura Stone (Year 9) delivered another outstanding performance, competing at the NSW All Schools Cross Country Championships at the Sydney International Equestrian Centre.
Competing against a field of 100 of the state's best 14-year-old runners, Laura finished in an impressive 15th place, an exceptional achievement at one of New South Wales' school cross country events.
Just four weeks earlier, Laura represented the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) at the CIS Cross Country Championships, with the depth of the competition evident as many of the top finishers at the NSW Championships also came through the CIS pathway.
Laura's determination, resilience and humility continue to make us proud. Congratulations on this fantastic achievement.
Full Throttle: MAG Launches New Remote Control (RC) Car Club
MAG has officially transformed into a high-octane racing arena with the exciting launch of the School's new Remote Control (RC) Car Club.
Last week, students from Years 5 and 6 gathered for their first session. The energy was electric as participants learned the fundamentals of radio control telemetry, battery safety and basic mechanical tuning.
Before hitting the track, students learned the ins and outs of their cars, including battery safety, and mastered the core safety rules. Once the safety briefing was complete, drivers took to the School grounds to begin learning to drive and test their skills in a precision figure eight driving drill.
"The goal is not just about going fast," said Club Coordinator Ms Clare O'Neill. "The RC Car Club is a hands-on extension of STEM learning. Students are learning real engineering concepts, problem solving and mechanical maintenance, all while building a fantastic community of teamwork and sportsmanship."
Special congratulations go to the Club's first Driver of the Week, Alfie Williams, who demonstrated impeccable track etiquette and outstanding sportsmanship while mastering the figure eight drill in record-breaking time.
The club operates every Tuesday after school from 3:15 pm to 4:30 pm. Students interested in joining can collect an application form from the Resource Centre, with a limited number of places still available.
