International Baccalaureate

Saltwater is proud to be an accredited International Baccalaureate (IB) School. The IB is a non-profit, globally recognised educational foundation. From P-6 we run the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) which emphasises inquiry-based learning, international-mindedness, and wholistic development, preparing students to thrive academically and personally in a local, national and global context.

Put simply, as our Saltwater P-9 College Vision Statement says, our vision is to educate and empower students to thrive in an ever-changing world.

You have probably noticed your children coming home using words like open-minded, caring, principled and risk-taker. A key element of the PYP is the IB Learner Profile. The learner profile are ten qualities (attributes) that the IB PYP aims to develop in children. The Learner Profile helps children grow into intellectually, personally, emotionally and socially capable human beings who can make the world a better place.

Here is a brief introduction to the 10 learner profile attributes.

Inquirers – curious and eager to learn, independence in exploring new ideas
Knowledgeable – informed and understanding of the world around them,
Thinkers – able to solve problems creatively and think critically
Communicators – confident in sharing ideas and listening to others
Principled – honest, fair and responsible, act with integrity
Open-minded – showing tolerance of and appreciation for different cultures and perspectives
Caring – kind and compassionate towards others
Risk-takers – willing to try new things and face challenges, be courageous
Balanced – understanding the importance of balancing different aspects of our life, intellectual, physical and emotional
Reflective – able to think about learning and recognise our strengths and areas for growth
