Attendance & Engagement

Building Strong Routines for a Successful Year
As we continue through the early weeks of the school year, our focus remains on attendance, engagement and safe travel to and from school. These first weeks are critical for establishing routines, building positive habits and helping students feel settled, connected and ready to learn.
Thank you to our families for the many ways you support students each day — from arriving on time, to communicating with the school, to helping keep our school community safe.

Every day at school matters. Even small improvements in attendance can make a meaningful difference to student learning, wellbeing and engagement — particularly at the beginning of the year.
🚲 Active Travel – Supporting Safe and Healthy Choices
Our school proudly participates in the Active Travel initiative in partnership with Wyndham City Council. This initiative encourages safe, active and sustainable ways for students to travel to and from school.
Active travel helps to:
- promote student health and wellbeing
- build independence and confidence
- reduce traffic congestion around the school
- improve safety for all members of our community
Where possible, families are encouraged to walk, ride or park a short distance away and walk the final part of the journey with their child.
🚗 Kiss & Go Zones – Reducing Congestion Safely
To support safe and efficient drop-off and pick-up times, Kiss & Go zones operate along the front of the school.
Please remember:
- Kiss & Go is limited to a maximum of 2 minutes
- Drivers must remain in their vehicles at all times
- Students should be ready to exit the vehicle promptly
Correct use of Kiss & Go zones helps reduce congestion, improves traffic flow and enhances safety during peak times.
🚸 Safe Travel and Crossing Points
Student safety remains a priority. Families and students are reminded to:
- use designated pedestrian crossing points
- follow road signage and traffic rules
- model safe road behaviour for children
Using marked crossing points significantly reduces risk and supports safe travel to and from school.
📝 Absences, Attendance & Family Holidays
Clear communication around attendance allows us to best support students and families.
Logging Absences
- All student absences must be recorded on Xuno on the day of absence
- Absences should be logged by families via Xuno rather than communicated directly to classroom teachers
- If you are unable to access Xuno, please contact the school office for support
Family Holidays During School Term
We strongly encourage families to plan holidays during school holiday periods wherever possible to minimise disruption to learning.
If a holiday during school term is unavoidable:
- A Family Holiday Notification must be submitted via Xuno prior to the leave occurring
- This ensures accurate attendance records and supports Department of Education requirements
Maintaining open communication helps us support students before and after periods of absence.
🤝 Working in Partnership
Regular attendance and engagement are shared responsibilities between home and school. When families keep us informed and communicate early, we are better placed to understand individual circumstances and provide appropriate support.
If you have concerns about attendance, routines, or anything impacting your child’s engagement with school, we encourage you to reach out. Together, we can ensure every student is supported to succeed.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership in supporting attendance, active travel and student wellbeing across our school community.
