Year 6

Wow! Newsletter week has rolled around again very quickly!! We have been very busy in year 6 with lots happening, as well as lots coming up at the end of this term and early next term.

Reading:

We finished Once, and were left with a huge cliffhanger. We are dying to know what happens to Felix and Zelda, and think we might need to read the next book together too, to find out!

We have been working on using evidence when writing responses to reading, to demonstrate our understanding of what we have read.

We are learning so much about the pearl diving industry and the treatment of indigenous people during this time. Next week we will be watching a documentary on this as well!

Writing:

Most of us have finished our information reports. See a couple of our published pieces below! We are moving onto book reports, based on the book ‘Free Diving’ now.

Maths

It seems like all we have done lately is fractions and decimals. But we are getting good now!! Looking forward to wrapping up this topic next week and showing all we have learnt through an assessment.

Prep Cross Country

Our amazing year 6 buddies cheered on the Preps during their cross country. We made very cute posters to keep them going on their big 500m run!!

Library and Lunch

We visited the Romsey Library and Lexie gave us a tour, we did a quiz about where to find certain books then got to borrow using our brand-new library cards!! We didn’t get to head to the Romsey Eco Park due to the weather, so we participated in Trivia in the conference room instead.

Menstrual Health and Pelvic Pain Incursion

This week we had Leon from Sexual Health Victoria out to chat to our year 6’s about menstrual health and pelvic pain. We learnt more about the anatomy of male and female reproductive organs. We also discussed sex, gender, sexuality, as well as diversity and disability. Students also learned about signs and symptoms of puberty and we got to explore period products. Students were very engaged and there were some great questions being asked about genetics and reproduction!

I hope everyone has a fantastic Easter and stays safe over the holidays! I know we are all looking forward to a rest, reset and well-earned break!!
