Year 2/3

Literacy - Over the past few weeks, our writing sessions have been a journey through two important types of writing: narrative and persuasive. These styles of writing offer unique structures and serve different purposes, and we’ve been diving deep into both. In narrative writing, students have been focusing on the structure of a story. From crafting engaging beginnings to developing characters and plots, we've explored the key components of narrative writing. Switching gears to persuasive writing, we’ve worked on constructing logical arguments and backing them up with evidence. We’re excited to continue exploring these writing forms in the coming weeks and look forward to seeing how students refine their skills.
In our reading sessions, we've been focusing on improving reading fluency, and it's been an exciting journey! Over the past few weeks, students have been engaging with various texts and practicing reader’s theatre as part of their fluency development.
Maths - As we approach the final weeks of the term, our maths focus has been on deepening our understanding of place value. We've been working hard to build a strong foundation in understanding numbers through partitioning numbers and exploring addition and subtraction of numbers up to 10,000. This vital skill helps us break down complex numbers and understand the value of each digit depending on its place. To support our learning, we’ve been using a variety of tools and resources.
ICT - Throughout this term all 2/3 students have used a wide range of online resources to help with their learning. They have been using (and loving) – TTRockstars, Numbots, Xtra Math, Typing Club and Google Slides & Sheets. The grade 3’s also completed NAPLAN on the school Chromebooks and all did a wonderful job!
SAKG - Our Year 2/3 students have absolutely loved being part of the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden (SAKG) program this term! The students have had a fantastic time learning new cooking skills, preparing delicious meals, and, of course, enjoying the food they have cooked. It’s been wonderful to see their creativity and teamwork come together in the kitchen. The highlight of each session has been having parents and families join in to help with cooking. We would like to extend a big THANK YOU to all the parents and family members who have volunteered their time to support the program. Your help is invaluable, and SAKG cannot run without your support!
Cross Country - Our Year 2/3 students had a fantastic time at Lancefield Park during our recent cross-country event! The morning was filled with excitement, energy, and school spirit as students took part in the races and cheered on their friends. The students loved the chance to get outside and put all their training they had done with Meagan to the test. Whether racing to the finish line or supporting their classmates, everyone gave their best effort and showed great sportsmanship. A big congratulations to all the students for their incredible effort and enthusiasm!
